Flattened image editing
Many images arrive without an editable source file. A designer exports a poster as a JPG, a product team saves a UI as a PNG, or a generated image contains a nearly perfect headline with one wrong letter. At that point, the words are no longer live type. They are pixels mixed with the background, lighting, texture, and compression of the picture.
ImageRetext is built for that specific problem. Instead of asking you to identify a font, rebuild a layout, erase the old phrase by hand, and place a new text box, the image text editor uses the source image as its visual reference. You name the words that currently appear, enter the replacement, and optionally explain where the text sits. The editing model then receives a deliberately narrow instruction: change that phrase and preserve unrelated content.
This approach is useful when you need to edit text in an image without access to PSD, Figma, Canva, or other layered artwork. It is not conventional typesetting, and it does not recover the original font file. The model visually interprets the lettering and surrounding pixels, so the result should be treated as a new image that needs a careful proof—not as an untouched source file with one magically editable layer.

The model can see the source, but your wording tells it what must change and what must remain fixed. A precise request reduces ambiguity and makes the finished image easier to proof.
Copy the visible phrase with the same spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and line breaks. If the same words appear twice, describe the location—for example, ‘the white headline in the upper-right corner.’ This helps the editor target the intended region instead of changing unrelated copy.
A replacement with a similar character count is more likely to preserve the original scale and alignment. When changing ‘SUMMER’ to ‘AUTUMN,’ the layout can remain compact. Replacing it with a full sentence may require smaller letters, different wrapping, or a redesigned composition.
Use the optional notes when the styling matters: condensed cream letters, red outline, soft drop shadow, embossed gold foil, painted sign, curved baseline, or text following the perspective of a package. Describe what you can see rather than guessing the font name.
Make one focused correction at a time. After generation, compare the result with the source at full size. Check nearby edges, repeated patterns, faces, logos, small icons, product shapes, and background texture. If those details drift, retry with a narrower location note.
Source file notes
JPEG is common for photos, exported ads, and shared promotional graphics. Compression can create halos around small letters and blocky color transitions. Use the largest available copy, avoid repeatedly resaving it, and inspect sharp type against flat backgrounds after editing.
PNG often carries screenshots, interface graphics, logos, and artwork with crisp edges. It gives the model cleaner source pixels, but generative output may still alter very thin lines or transparency near the edited area. Check alpha edges before placing the result over a new background.
WebP is accepted for modern web graphics and downloaded images. Both lossy and lossless sources can look similar in a browser, so judge the visible quality rather than the extension alone. If lettering already looks soft or smeared at 100%, find a higher-resolution source before replacing it.
A necessary limitation
Always inspect small lettering, product details, faces, logos, and nearby textures. Very small, curved, handwritten, or heavily stylized text may require another pass.

It attempts to reproduce the font character, weight, spacing, color, perspective, and surrounding texture. Results are strongest on clear, readable text; unusual lettering and very small text may need another pass.
You can upload JPG, PNG, and WebP images up to 6MB. Start with the cleanest, highest-resolution copy you have. A heavily compressed screenshot or tiny social-media download gives the model fewer reliable letter shapes and background pixels to work with.
The edit prompt explicitly asks the model to preserve everything outside the requested text. Because this is generative editing, always review fine details before publishing.
Keep the new phrase reasonably close to the source length, capitalization, and number of lines. If the wording must be longer, use the placement notes to explain whether the model may reduce the type size or widen the text within the existing design.
You can describe more than one change, but one short region per edit is usually easier to review and control. Finish the first correction, download or continue from that result, and then target the next region.
